- Hi there,
- Since this is my first post to any news group please bear with me.
- I am having random lockups in OS/2 and I'm not positive of why it's
- happening or how to fix it. First my system is as follows:
-
- Neat 386sx - 16 MHz (motherboard)
- Standard VGA
- AMI Bios 7-7-91
- Keyboard Controller F
- Maxtor 7080, and 7120 IDE hard drives
-
- I have boot manager running with DOS 5 and OS/2 each in their own primary
- fat partition on the 80 meg drive (7080). That is obviously the master drive.
- I have three partitions on the 120 meg drive d: and e: are fat f: is HPFS.
- The fat partitions are 40 meg each.
- A couple of weeks ago i was having even more crashes and lockups than I
- have now (about 1 a day now). I spoke to an IBM rep in Boca for about an hour.
- He suggested that I make all my partitions fat (at that time my OS/2 partition
- was HPFS) which I did. His reasoning was that there SEEMED to be problem with
- HPFS and IDE hard drives, I agree because after I went to fat my problems were
- reduced quite a bit. I was able to get the system to crash during a couple of
- lockups and it gave a location error (I don't have it with me now) and said
- Device Driver Exception IMBS506$. Since then I have replaced that driver
- with the IBMINT13.I13 driver (at the reps suggestion). I am still getting
- lockups.
- The only other suggestion I got from IBM was that my motherboard may
- have to be replaced. I am a college student so I would like to avoid this
- option as I have already spent about 1,000 dollars in upgrades this summer.
- Has anyone had similar problems and how were they fixed if at all?
- Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for a fix? I really like OS/2 but
- I need to be more reliable.
-
- Thanks, Dave
