- Over the weekend I solved the problem I was experiencing with NT install
- hanging when it tried to check my disk configuration. I guess there was
- some violent disagreement between the installer and the OS/2 boot manager
- partition. Once I removed that, NT install had no trouble reading my
- partitions.
-
- However, I now have a couple of other problems. The installation goes
- smoothly through the text-based portion. The machine then reboots and the
- graphical installation screen comes up. Then I get a dialog box with a
- stop sign which says I don't have enough memory.
-
- My machine is 486/33 EISA with 8mb, Adaptec 1542B SCSI and 2 SCSI disks.
- While booting, the kernel says I have 8192KB available. Now, I have several`
- partitions on my first disk:
-
- C: 90mb FAT - DOS - Primary partition, bootable
- E: 205mb FAT - Windows - Logical drive in extended partition
- F: 90mb HPFS - OS/2 - Logical drive in extended partition
- G: 110mb FAT - Windows NT - Logical drive in extended partition
-
- I installed NT onto G:. However, when I examined the system after the
- install failed, it had put PAGING.SYS (or whatever the name is) on C:. The
- first time around there was only 11mb free on C:, so the paging file was
- only 10mb. I thought NT needed at least a 20mb paging file, so I freed
- up some space on C:. With 32mb free on C:, I reinstalled NT onto G: but
- it failed again with the same "Not enough memory" dialog. Again I looked
- at the paging file and it was still only 10mb...
-
- So my questions are: Why is the graphical install failing with the
- insufficient memory error? Is this because it only made a 10mb paging file?
- If so, how can I have it create a larger one? There is enough room on C: now
- for a 20mb file. And, more to the point, how can I force it to put the paging
- file on G:, where there is gobs of room?
-
- Help!
-
- Thank you for any suggestions.
