- Most of the power-down parking mechanism that I've seen don't actually lock
- the read/write heads down and secure the disk. Instead, what the ones I've
- seen do is pull the heads away from the disk by de-energizing a simple sol-
- enoid device. When they're powered up, the solenoid puts the heads very
- close to the disks, but when they're turned off, the heads move away.
