- This may not be a problem with Windows at all. If you are running a DOS
- application in a window (even full screen) and the error message returned
- is text via DOS, and not in a Windows dialog box, then it's not necessarily
- a Windows problem (although you may need to allocate more resources FROM
- windows, or soemthing).
-
- It sounds like a program such as PKLITE or LZEXE was used on a software
- package that doesn't like this. FOr instance, any program that uses
- overlays is the most likely to choke on such compression, as the
- "uncompress" code added to the EXE will screw up the expected memory
- sizes and locations.
-
- If you are running one of the DOS components (e.g. XCOPY.EXE) it may have
- been copied and renamed instead of uncompressed via EXPAND.EXE. Try
- running EXPAND on the file and see what happens (no harm if it's not
- an EXPANDable file.)
