- Low Level format of MFM (ST412/506), ESDI and SCSI hard drives does no damage
- to the drive and can in many instances correct drive errors.
-
- NEVER perform a low-level format on an IDE hard drive! These drives are
- formatted at the factory using special equipment to optimize the transfer rate
- (speed) of the drive. A low level format on IDE drives can significantly
- degrade performance. You can, however use FDISK and FORMAT to high-level format
- these drives.
