- Concerning just the c: drive, I *HIGHLY* recommend using at least two
- linux partitions (in addition to a swap partition if you want one) that
- are roughly equal in size.
-
- The reasoning behind this (above and beyone the usual reason concerning
- filesystem corruption and/or failures) is that you can tar one partition
- and temporarilly store all of its information on the other and upgrade the
- first filesystem.
-
- (ie, tar cfzv /tmp /usr and then mkefs /dev/<whatever /usr is> and vice
- versa for the root partition).
-
- This allows easy upgrades to new filesystems without backing everything up
- to floppy and then restoring it.
-
- This also gives you the option of using either the 'standard' minix-style
- filesystem (limited to 64M/partition and 14 characters/filename) or the
- alpha extended filesystem (4 TERAbyte paritions and 255 Chars/filename).
-
- However, you'll need to upgrade the kernel to at least 0.97 to use an
- extended filesystem as a root filesystem. In your case, you should be
- able to just FTP the bootimage-0.97.Z and rawrite it to disk.
-
- (NOTE: I have been using the extended fs (version 4) for over a month
- now without a single problem that wasn't the direct result of a stupid
- action on my part... however, your milage my vary).

-
- It's the filesystem that affects the size of the partition allowed...
- and there is less limited filesystem available.. see above for the details.
- (you will need the .97 kernel or better to mount an ext fs as root 'tho)
