- Two solutions: 1) You replace DOS' braindead format program with
- something better (no, I don't know of anything, unless you count Linux'
- fdformat + mtools), or 2) use the /u (I think) switch to force a format.

- I could say something even nastier about format programs that won't
- format a floppy, but since the DOS format program can be made to do it,
- I won't. (That wasn't the case with a certain other format program in a
- somewhat wellknown utility package; that one just plainly refused to
- believe that yes, I really did want to format a a _partly_ formatted
- disk. I hate programs that try to be too smart and fail.)
