- I'm using 0.96cpl2 with ps 0.96c package. Today I've put
- my system under some constrain (kernel compilation,
- backup, minicom, top, and sc) and was trying
- with top and as root to increase prioity for sc (spreadsheet
- in other VC run as regular user). Did nice+14 (in top)
- and it actually slowed the thing down! Top showed it as
- first one wrt CPU usage but, mama, was it slow. Needless to
- say nice-19 gave it a boost (and put it last in the
- table).
- Things are funny that way because there seems to be far
- limit to negatives for nice (tried -50, did'n want to
- screw up kernel compilation) so you can give a
- proccess almost total priority.
- Am I missing something or is that a bug?
