  17.      Arrrgh! Linux is a fine learning tool as it is, why try to make it
  18.    something it's not? At some point maybe someone like Cygnus will grab a
  19.    copy, stabilize it, and offer it for a few bucks, but for now if you
  20.    slow it down the excitement will burn out and you will wind up with a
  21.    lot less to coordinate!

  23. Okay, call the person the "Linux secretary", then.  Someone to pick
  24. up the slack that a volunteer doesn't feel like filling.  Here are
  25. possible some lines for the coordinator's job description taken from
  26. a previous posting of yours:

  28.      I would like to see people put some effort into packaging the
  29.    software, so I could, for instance, grab a 'ps' package and just compile
  30.    it and run. I'm willing to compile for every new kernel, I'm less
  31.    willing to grab headers from some other package, diddle a bunch of
  32.    s_links which seem to change between versions, etc.

  34.      True, although a directory of what files are where and what's really
  35.    in them would be a big help. Just a list of what kernels work with what
  36.    packages would be great. With a comment like "must ps -U to run" or
  37.    "works, but must recompile with new kernel includes," or something like
  38.    that.

  40. One of the things the coordinator could do is sell Linux floppy sets.
  41. That would help fund the position...
