- Like most people who read this group I was attracted to Coh 4.0 by its
- price - for $99.95 how can you go wrong? So I set about ordering a
- copy. As I live in Ireland, I thought that it would be easiest and
- quickest to order from the MWC distributor in the UK. I tried calling
- the number given in the Coherent ads., but it turns out that this
- number is not correct - a quick mail message to sales@mwc.com got the
- right number for me.
-
- When I spoke to the UK distributor, FISCO, they told me that they
- couldn't take orders by phone, so they would send me an order form -
- fair enough. It took two weeks for the order for to arrive - the post
- mark tells me that it was posted one week after we spoke on the phone,
- and it took a further week to make its way across the water.
-
- When I opened the order form I was shocked to see that FISCO were
- asking 149.95 pounds sterling, plus 7.50 shipping, plus 17.5% VAT
- (value added tax)! This makes a total of approx 185 pounds sterling,
- or about 200 Irish pounds!
-
- Compare this with the cost of $99.95 plus $35 shipping when ordered
- directly from MWC. This translates to 76 Irish pounds, due to the
- current deflated state of the dollar. (This is the exact cost - I got
- my VISA bill this morning :-( ).
-
- Therefore to order from the UK would have cost me an extra 124 Irish
- Pounds, making the price more than 2.5 times the cost from the US. So
- what would I get for all this extra money? Phone support from the UK-
- not such a gread deal for me, as calling FISCO would mean expensive
- international phone calls, and I plan to use Coh at home after work,
- when I presume that FISCO would also be closed. Anyway with access to
- netnews and mail to MWC I think that I have a much better source of
- hands on experience :-)
-
- So my money has gone to MWC directly - Now hopefully it will trun up
- soon. My VISA card was debited a week ago, so I presume it is on its
- was (Irish customs are probably having a look at it :-)
-
- I would be interested in hearing what other distributors are charging
- for Coh 4.0, and what they are offering in return....
