- I'm really thinking hard about buying coherent 4.0, but I have one
- thing holding me back - how good is the version of vi that comes with
- it?
-
- I've used stevie, calvin, and elvis 1.2 and was totally unimpressed.
- Most of the :set options are missing, and the regular expressions (the
- real powerful ex stuff) were totally junk (no/limited global, etc.).
- It seemed like each one was missing different pieces - maybe if
- somebody put all the features into one?
-
- Somebody at MWC said one of the programmers loved elvis 1.7 (comes
- with 4.0?). Is it that much better? Am I going to have to use emacs all
- the time for it to feel like "real" *nix?
-
- I'm currently living with the MKS toolkit at home, and it is by far
- the best non-AT&T/BSD vi I've ever used. I could live with that
- forever if I could have long filenames.
-
- While I'm at it, will it work with my disk setup:
- 120MB drive for DOS, 212MB for *nix, both IDE's with the 120 as master?
- Does it help to partition (root, /usr, /tmp, /etc) like in "real" *nix?
-
- Eagerly awaiting your reply (with Visa in hand)
