  12. I'm really thinking hard about buying coherent 4.0, but I have one
  13. thing holding me back - how good is the version of vi that comes with
  14. it?

  16. I've used stevie, calvin, and elvis 1.2 and was totally unimpressed.
  17. Most of the :set options are missing, and the regular expressions (the
  18. real powerful ex stuff) were totally junk (no/limited global, etc.).
  19. It seemed like each one was missing different pieces - maybe if
  20. somebody put all the features into one?

  22. Somebody at MWC said one of the programmers loved elvis 1.7 (comes
  23. with 4.0?). Is it that much better? Am I going to have to use emacs all
  24. the time for it to feel like "real" *nix?

  26. I'm currently living with the MKS toolkit at home, and it is by far
  27. the best non-AT&T/BSD vi I've ever used. I could live with that
  28. forever if I could have long filenames.

  30. While I'm at it, will it work with my disk setup:
  31. 120MB drive for DOS, 212MB for *nix, both IDE's with the 120 as master?
  32. Does it help to partition (root, /usr, /tmp, /etc) like in "real" *nix?
