  13. As reported earlier, I am having trouble booting Coherent 4.0.1 on my
  14. 486 system.  An error is reported by tboot to the effect that
  15. "prepare_gift: not enough room for all arguments" followed by "try
  16. again with 'begin' or 'update'" from /etc/brc.build during
  17. installation.

  19. A suggestion by MWC was to abort tboot's automatic sequence (type a
  20. space during the five second pause), and then type "info".  Well, this
  21. definitely produced an interesting repsonse.

  23. Typing "info" once produces a 128 line list of attached drives number
  24. 0 though 127.  As there is only one hard drive, I did not put too much
  25. faith in this list.  Typing "info" a second time during the same boot
  26. attempt produced a correct one line response, so I guess it must have
  27. repented of its earlier fibbing.  As further suggested by MWC, I then
  28. typed "autoboot" and tboot proceeded to boot the system with no
  29. complaints whatsoever.  I examined the contents of /dev/boot_gift and
  30. found "autoboot" at offset 0x20.  Earlier troubled boots had apparent
  31. garbage at this location.

  33. I beleive that typing "autoboot" without first typing "info" produces
  34. the same prepare_gift complaint as before.
  35.  
  36. So, MWC, what's the diagnosis?  Are there any bogus side effects of
  37. not using the manual tboot intervention?  Can we get a new tboot?
