- : : Just as soon as I receive my update, I promise to post lots of first, second
- : : and third impressions.
- : :
- :
- : I have been running 4.0 for about a week. I think they rushed it too
- : soon. I crashed it several times. Once I booted my machine cold it
- : got thru "loading Coherent" and the file system check then /bin/sh
- : died and trashed my file system. Reinstall from scratch. The uucp
- : directions in the book for uuinstall don't work. I followed them to a
- : tee, no go. However the ones for manual install only have a few
- : gotchas in them. So I was able to get uucp up and connect to mwcbbs.
- : Now I am trying send mail and its keeps getting rejected with an error
- : 68 or something. I tried to look it up in the manual but of course
- : its not there. I the course of testing mail I got some message "bad
- : arenea" and could not execute any other program. Tried to look that
- : up and nothing doing. I happened to be logged in as root at the time,
- : so rather that trash the file system I tried to execute shutdown.
- : Same message. For shits and grins I tried exec shutdown and that
- : worked. So I concluded it could not fork. Tried to use Lex. I typed
- : a program right out of the book in the tutorial, I think page 220, and
- : it did not produce the same results... Life goes on and I suspect that
- : I will encounter more... Andy.

- Hm, I haven't crash the system either with 4.0-beta nor with 4.0.
- How much memory has your system? How many virtual consoles are
- installed? How many virtual terminals are you running with the
- screen package? The shell can't fork another proccess, if there
- isn't enough memory for that, but this hasn't crashed anything
- so far here. Forget about the error numbers in the uucico logfile,
- run uucico with -x9 and tell us what it does.
- What did not produce the same results, lex or the compiled program
- created by lex?
