- I've been thinking that one thing which would be really nice for
- USENIX conferences is to encourage a few locals to post where to get decent
- food in their town, before the conference. Therefore, at the risk of being
- flamed to death, I'd like to mention a few places in Baltimore where good
- eats can be had. This is inherently biased, of course. :) I get no kick
- backs from any of these, I'm just a fat dumb and happy customer.
-
- Tony Cheng's - (Szechuan) Moderately pricy but pretty darn good.
- Go north up Charles st to a block past the washington
- monument, and it's on the right. Crispy beef is good.
- Thai Landing - (Thai) Terrific and cheap homestyle thai. Also
- on Charles st, in a little building on the right with an
- awning, about 6 blocks north of the monument. Crowds up
- fast, worth the wait.
- Akbar - (Indian) Small and cozy, pretty good, 1/2 block north of
- Tony Cheng's.
- The Prime Rib - (beef) Expensive. Delicious. Jacket/tie req.
- North up Calvert, it's down a side street to the right,
- on Chase st.
- Nichi Bei Kai - (sushi) Used to be heaven on earth but now
- merely pretty good. North on Charles about 5 blocks
- from the monument, in the basement of the Belvedere
- hotel.
-
- Actually, that whole area 1-2 blocks north of the monument on
- Charles st is a good place to look for food.
-
- Sisson's - (brewpub and seafood) South on St. Paul (within a
- decent walk 's distance fo the hotel) on Cross st.
-
- The Cross st area south of the hotel is another good "looking
- for food" kind of place.
-
- Obrycki's - (maryland seafood and crabs) Go east on Pratt
- for a ways, through some pretty grungy neighborhoods.
- Do not walk. about 2 miles from the hotel, or so.
- Cross-street Broadway.
-
- Obrycki's is in Fells Point, another good "looking for food
- and beer" kind of place, with yuppy nightclubs (formerly biker bars
- but now upscaled) to the south, down Broadway.
-
- Sabatino's - (italian) moderately expensive.
-
- "Little Italy" is graced with several solid italian restaurants,
- and is located east along Pratt st, about a mile or so from the hotel.
-
- I wish everyone an enjoyable stay in Baltimore. I'd join you
- guys for dinner at any one of these places except that I'll be stuck
- on the other coast that week. :(
