- Pete,
-
- I will have go searching, but I believe that Elizabeth Zwicky posted
- some SAGE info on this newsgroup soon after her return from San
- Antonio. If not, then that was a mistake on the interim boards part,
- and we will rectify it. In fact, perhaps it is time to repost some
- of that info to coincide with the first SAGE newsletter offerings in this
- months "login:".
-
- At the conclusion of the meeting in San Antonio we set out to and did
- a series of mailing lists to discuss various topics that SAGE would begin
- examining and/or addressing. At this time there are 15 or so mailing lists
- running from usenix.org. I will repost that list of groups in a few minutes.
-
- The mailing lists cover a range of topics from the Pubs group which I
- run to groups on ethics, conferences, security and non-unix outreach.
- Each is attempting to formulate some plans or strategies for SAGE to pursue
- (or determine that the topic is not worth pursuing at this time).
-
- The interim board, many of whom you met in San Antonio, will be
- superseded in January by an elected board, chosen from candidates
- that volunteer by the 22nd of October (yes, that is the Thursday
- of LISA) and voted upon in December. The interim board is in place
- simply to get the process rolling, set up the initial election
- procedures, and carry the torch through the first election. Many of
- us will not be running for board positions this fall.
-
- What can you do? Join the mailing lists for the working groups
- and help shape the direction of the organization.
-
- What do you get? Well, you get newsletter info. You get the results
- of the working groups (job descriptions, site policies, software collection,
- etc.), contacts with other system administrators, and others. Much of this
- is up to you and the rest who are the first to join and participate.
-
- (And you get on the SAGE mailing list. I just checked it and did
- not find your name. I will submit it for addition myself in
- just a few minutes. You can contact me directly if you like and
- we can verify that USENIX does indeed have you on their rosters.)
-
- I hope this has answered some of your questions. Please feel
- free to drop me a note, or post one here, if I missed anything.
