  11. GEnie now has its Internet mail gateway running for "beta test".
  12. Send email to user@genie.geis.com.

  14. However, you can't send email to just any GEnie user.  You can only
  15. send email to users who have signed up for "Internet mail service",
  16. which costs an extra $9.95 per month over and above other GEnie fees.
  17. Sending email to the Internet costs $.40 per message.  There is no
  18. per-message charge to receive Internet email.

  20. In my opinion (which I've shared with GEnie FEEDBACK) this is absurd.
  21. A reasonable per-message charge is OK, ($.40 seems a bit high, but
  22. isn't too exhorbitant) and maybe a one-time setup would (grumble
  23. grumble) be acceptable, but a $9.95 per month recurring fee is just
  24. plain out of the question.  This is twice what I'm currently paying
  25. for GEnie, the $4.95 "Basic Services" charge, and seems completely
  26. out of line to me.
