- GEnie now has its Internet mail gateway running for "beta test".
- Send email to user@genie.geis.com.
-
- However, you can't send email to just any GEnie user. You can only
- send email to users who have signed up for "Internet mail service",
- which costs an extra $9.95 per month over and above other GEnie fees.
- Sending email to the Internet costs $.40 per message. There is no
- per-message charge to receive Internet email.
-
- In my opinion (which I've shared with GEnie FEEDBACK) this is absurd.
- A reasonable per-message charge is OK, ($.40 seems a bit high, but
- isn't too exhorbitant) and maybe a one-time setup would (grumble
- grumble) be acceptable, but a $9.95 per month recurring fee is just
- plain out of the question. This is twice what I'm currently paying
- for GEnie, the $4.95 "Basic Services" charge, and seems completely
- out of line to me.
