  12. I use VMS MAIL on a VAX 6320.

  14. I organize my incoming mail into folders. Every so often I do some
  15. housecleaning, in the course of which I use the command
  16.  
  17.      DELETE/ALL
  18.  
  19. to erase the current contents of specific folders. 
  20. This operation also deletes the FOLDER, even though I'd like to retain it
  21. for subsequent mail - next time I try to FILE a letter, I get the message
  22.  
  23.       "folder does not exist, do you want to create it", etc.

  25. This is like chucking out your filing cabinet every time you throw out some
  26. old letters!

  28. I've looked in the manual and found no parameter for DELETE that allows for
  29. retention of the folder. I know I can delete entries indivdually, but that
  30. would be ridiculous; besides, I have a command procedure for automatic
  31. purging of various folders.

  33. Any explanations of this phenomenon and suggestions for a cure would be very
  34. welcome.
