- It occurs to me that the problem might not have anything to do with
- virtual vs. real mode. Perhaps it depends on whether or not the IDE
- is using expanded memory. If you don't load QEMM or EMM386 then the
- IDE does not see any expanded memory available. Perhaps you could
- test for this by booting QEMM with whatever switches are needed to
- turn off expanded memory emulation.
