  21. Take a few steps out of your university : We here at ArtCom GmbH have 
  22. implemented a complex software system running on UNIX (SCO) in Modula-2.
  23. Started in 1986 on a MS-Dos-PC our Software now is about more 320,000 
  24. lines of M2.

  26. We are still in the market (Prepress Technology) but we don't care
  27. about any M2-Standardization.  Our own inhouse language standard is
  28. defined by N.Wirth "yellow report" (ETH Zuerich, March 1980) and some
  29. self defined additional rules (Don't use this, Don't use that).  
  30. That is enough for us.  Any serious Modula-2 use must be based on a 
  31. clever selection of basic library modules, which doesn't rely on the 
  32. random rubbish delivered from most M2-compiler vendors.  
  33. It has taken us much time to develop this library set and the 
  34. development still continues (including now X11 and a own
  35. GUI toolkit).

  37. Our current production compiler (Glance Ltd., Zuerich) generates 
  38. `C' (used as a portable Macro-Assembler ;-) and we are using 
  39. the GNU-suite (gcc 1.40, gdb,gmake, ...) as production development 
  40. tools.
