- Take a few steps out of your university : We here at ArtCom GmbH have
- implemented a complex software system running on UNIX (SCO) in Modula-2.
- Started in 1986 on a MS-Dos-PC our Software now is about more 320,000
- lines of M2.
-
- We are still in the market (Prepress Technology) but we don't care
- about any M2-Standardization. Our own inhouse language standard is
- defined by N.Wirth "yellow report" (ETH Zuerich, March 1980) and some
- self defined additional rules (Don't use this, Don't use that).
- That is enough for us. Any serious Modula-2 use must be based on a
- clever selection of basic library modules, which doesn't rely on the
- random rubbish delivered from most M2-compiler vendors.
- It has taken us much time to develop this library set and the
- development still continues (including now X11 and a own
- GUI toolkit).
-
- Our current production compiler (Glance Ltd., Zuerich) generates
- `C' (used as a portable Macro-Assembler ;-) and we are using
- the GNU-suite (gcc 1.40, gdb,gmake, ...) as production development
- tools.
-
- All this works fine for us.
-
- Regards, Peter
