  18. The   laboratory  is  a  part  of  the  chair  "Applied  Computer
  19. Science  I"  of  the  department  for  computer  science  at  the
  20. university  of  Hagen.  It serves for the  transfer  of  know-how
  21. about   actual   developments  in  the  area  of  databases   and
  22. knowledge based systems which are relevant to practice.

  24. One  of  our main research interests lies in the area of "Object-
  25. Oriented  Database  Management  Systems  (OODBMS)".  As  we   are
  26. preparing  a  comparison between different  OODBMS  we  presently
  27. explore  the  systems  ONTOS  of  ONTOS,  Inc.  and  Gemstone  of
  28. Servio Logic for their capabilities.

  30. For  the  purpose  of continous investigation  of  this  kind  of
  31. database management systems we are still  searching for
  32.  
  33.    -  applications using OODBMS
  34.    -  as  well  as  new  product announcements of developers  and
  35.        distributors.

  37. We  are  also interested in persistent contacts to and  qualified
  38. discussions   with  other  OODMBS  users  as  well   as   product
  39. developers.
