  12. Many editors (e.g., CCA Emacs, and VMS Eve) highlight the text that
  13. has been selected for some block operation.

  15. In general I find this a nuisance, but it is occasionally convenient.
  16. Using GNU emacs 18.58, it doesn't look like there is any way to do
  17. this; the display seems to be done by very low-level code.  Have I
  18. missed something?  Is there any way to do this purely in lisp, i.e.,
  19. without changing the C code an recompiling the editor?
