- Established in 1980 as a nonprofit consortium, MCNC continues its pivotal
- support role in technology education and research for attracting and
- generating technology-based industry for North Carolina. MCNC matches the

- NORTH CAROLINA SUPERCOMPUTING CENTER

- The North Carolina Supercomputing Center (NCSC) is a state-supported
- Supercomputing Center and Research Institute located in the Research Triangle
- Park, North Carolina. The NCSC program is national and international in scope
- as well as impact. NCSC promotes educational and research activities in
- high-performance computing and its applications in science, engineering and
- other disciplines. The Center works in close collaboration with universities
- and industry to enhance the economic development of North Carolina and to
- support the national high-performance computing initiative.

- NCSC's computational environment includes a Cray Y-MP, running UNICOS,
- which began operating in September 1989. The Center is accessible at high
- band width (T1/T3) by means of North Carolina's existing data communications
- network and is connected to the appropriate national networks.

- MANAGER, EDUCATION (#444)

- This employee will manage, develop, and coordinate education programs for all
- aspects of NCSC activities. This includes programs for teachers and students
- from kindergarden through post-doc for all educational institutions in the
- state including universities, community colleges and local K-12 school
- districts. Will advise NCSC management on education policies and plans, and
- contributes to organizational planning and decision-making. Represents the
- Center in statewide and national computational science initiatives and
- positions the Center as a leader in education. Prepares short and long-range
- plans for the Education Group. Develops programs that enhance computational
- science statewide and will also meet the needs of the scientific community and
- academia, including writing and coordination proposals to obtain Federal,
- State or private funding in support of these projects. Interacts on a regular
- basis with members of other North Carolina education groups. Represents NCSC
- at national meetings and conferences as appropriate. Responsible for hiring
- new staff and students as authorized. Budgetary responsibility for the
- Education Group including budget planning and expenditure approval.

- Requires a Ph.D. with graduate study in either computer science, engineering,
- mathematics or equivalent. Previous management experience in an educational
- or high tech environment is required. A proven track record in successful
- submission of funding proposals and a background in Computational Science is
- also a plus.
