  11. Is it possible, through Unix, to extract a sample from
  12. a music CD-ROM?

  14. We have a program that plays CD's on our Unix CD-ROM
  15. drive.  It uses SCSI ioctl calls to send commands.
  16. My guess is that the best bet would be to send some 
  17. sort of ioctl to the drive asking it to return a certain
  18. block or sector on the CD-ROM.  Possible?

  20. Then, what kind of format is the data in?  How hard would
  21. it then be to convert it into AIFF/uLAW or some other 
  22. well know format?

  24. This would be very useful information for me, and I 
  25. would think, a wide number of others.  Any hints are 
  26. appreciated.
