  16. UPDATE ON UNION TALKS WITH BELL ATLANTIC

  18. WASHINGTON -- Union negotiators for the Communications Workers of
  19. America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
  20. resumed bargaining with Bell Atlantic at 10:00 am Wednesday.
  21. Following an afternoon break, negotiations resumed at 3:30pm and are
  22. continuing at this time.

  24. "We are still far apart on the major issues," said CWA spokesman Pat
  25. Shelor, "and we are nowhere near reaching a settlement.  But we will
  26. continue to negotiate as long as progress is being made."
