  25. Hayes has said nothing about V.fast, beyond the fact that we are an 
  26. active participant in the work on the standard. No announcements 
  27. have been made about V.fast products or upgrades of any kind.

  29. In my humble opinion (not necessarily that of my employer), such 
  30. announcements are QUITE premature, since to make them requires 
  31. making a lot of assumptions about what the V.fast standard will end 
  32. up being -- and that is quite uncertain at this point. Any 
  33. manufacturer who is including enough hardware in their modems today 
  34. to do WHATEVER V.fast ends up being -- regardless of how complex -- 
  35. is unnecessarily charging their current users for much more 
  36. horsepower than they need, regardless of how cheap they claim the 
  37. eventual upgrade might be.  My strong advice (which has nothing to 
  38. do with who I work for) is to use extreme caution right now with 
  39. taking any manufacturer up on their offer of a modem that will be 
  40. upgradable to V.fast; there's just too much uncertainty.
