- Such a utility is useful if your comm program does not directly support the
- 16550A series, but which is smart enough to continually fetch bytes until
- the UART say there's no more. In such a case you just need to turn on the
- FIFOs and you will improve performance. Many comm programs and serial
- drivers are 16550A aware in which case you don't need the utility. The
- program or driver will handle all the details itself. Sorry, I don't know
- which term programs do and don't, or where you could get the utility you
- described, but there's probably something on the net which can help you. (I
- use unix, not dos, which is a whole different situation. In that case you
- should try the FAS or SAS drivers. The latter is a streams version of SAS.)
