- anyways, to the original poster: the 8259 is *NOT* a UART. if you
- replace it with a UART chip, your computer would, uhh, not work....to
- say the least. (haven't looked in a long, long time, but I don't think
- the chips are even close to the same size...lucky you.)

- the chip you were referring to is the 8250, and yes, in general, the
- 8250A/16450 are better than the 8250, and the 16550AN/16550AFN chips
- are better than all of the above. now, you may not need them for your
- application, but that's another story! :-) I would suggest you look at
- the FAQ (since this is one), but we don't have a FAQ on this group....
