- In article <BOB.92Aug17144826@volitans.MorningStar.Com>, bob@MorningStar.Com (Bob Sutterfield) writes...
- #X requires a TCP/IP connection, which means you'll need to run PPP or
- #SLIP between the UNIX system and your PC. Free and commercially-
- #supported implementations of both protocols are available for most
- #UNIX systems - ask on comp.protocols.ppp for pointers, or write to
- #marketing@morningstar.com for info on our product. I've heard that
- #there are some nice X-over-SLIP (and maybe X-over-PPP) packages for
- #DOS PCs, but I can't give you any recommendations since I'm not a DOS
- #kinda guy.
- #
- #Alternatively, there may be an X-over-XRemote implementation for PCs,
- #which would talk to a similar driver on a UNIX system. This wouldn't
- #require (nor offer the advantages of) a real TCP/IP connection between
- #the PC and the UNIX system.
-
- Change that to "X requires a transport layer," and I'll buy it. I'm currently
- running X applications locally and over a 9600BPS Modem line using DDCMP
- (Yes, DECnet.)
