- You are laboring under a couple of misconceptions here. First of all,
- there's a *huge* installed base of TDDs. And most of the users *didn't*
- pay for them, they were donated. That's why they use such obsolete
- technology.

- Second, "under $1000" seems to be some sort of "magic" figure for a lot
- of folks when dealing with computers for "home" use. Alas, reality says
- that it's going to have to be $100 to get into the majority of homes.
- With the TDDs the situation is even worse, as they aren't gonna buy these
- new goodies when they have something that works.

- Look at it this way. Why would you expect everyone to buy one of AT&Ts
- new videophones? They're in the same sort of price range with respect to
- normal telephone as your proposed computer is with respect to "issue"
- TDDs (last I heard, deaf users were "issued" basic TDD gear upon request
- to some organization).
