  19. There is nothing to keep you from BUILDING you own modem.
  20. However if you want to USE it an attach it to the phone lines
  21. it MUST be FCC approved.

  23. I suspect that by the time you get approval on a modem you
  24. build, you would have spent enough to buy several hundred
  25. modems.

  27. All devices attached to the phone lines must, by law, be type
  28. approved.
