- It works fine with my software. I borrowed one a few weeks back and
- it was only a few minutes to get it profiled and tested. Unfortunately it's
- been returned so I can't run a trace.
-
- From my notes:
-
- 1. ZyXEL doesn't seem to implement +fmdl or +frev, ati will
- return ROM rev if required
-
- 2. ZyXEL responds like an Everex for +fmfr? (not like Rockwell)
-
- 3. ZyXEL basically responds like Rockwell based fax modems
- (like Supra or Zoom) for everything else
- - Copy quality not implemented on receive
- - no line count
- - received data is backwards
- - +fbor can be used to correct received data
-
- 4. ZyXEL correctly handled switching from standard to/from fine
- for sending, but not for receiving (4.10 roms)
-
- >using its class II interface? (I really should say, pseudo class II,
- >since class II is not a standard yet.)
-
- Well I liked Class 2 Classic. Other commentators prefer Ersatz Class 2.
- The new spec has changed the number returned by +fclass from "2" to "2.0"
- so we could get by just be referring to Class 2 and Class 2.X.
-
- There are several common implementation "standards". First would be the
- Everex version which follows the original specifications fairly closely
- (the chairman of the TR29.2 committe that designed the specification is
- the head of engineering at Cygnet who builds the Everex modem).
-
- Another company did an implementation that was sold to Rockwell and Sierra.
- It had some strange differences that are being carried along simply because
- it's easier to leave them in than fix. Other companies seem to be cloning
- the Rockwell interface because they have sold the most.
