- We are currently considering the likely results of an upgrade to our Sun
- 490 server to bring it to a 690 x 4 processor under SunOS 4.1.2. This
- system serves two purposes at present. 1) Is the main backend database
- server for Ingres, 2) Is the central file server for distributed
- workstations requiring NFS service. I am aware that certain types of
- applications actually perform worse using the Sun 4m processsor with Sun's
- current operating system.
-
- The question I have for the net is if anyone has experience with resolving
- the Ingres performance problems on a Sun 690 with any of the following
- approaches or some combination?
-
- 1) Multiple database engines on the same server.
- 2) Sun DBE 1.2
- 3) Applying the current patches from Sun targeted toward 690 performance
- under SunOS 4.1.2
-
- Please reply soon if you have some thoughts. There is a bit of a time
- element here for us.
