- Hi folks,
-
- I'd appreciate some feedback about a project I'm looking into. We have
- a VAX/VMS system running Rdb/SQL and need to write some database
- applications that track engineering changes. I'd prefer that we used a
- DOS-based DBMS that could make calls to our SQL-server on the Vax,
- keeping data stored on the Vax. Some factoids:
-
- 1) We're running Pathworks for VMS and the Vax is relatively busy as it
- is. We have mostly 386 systems on the network, so distribution of work
- is preferable.
-
- 2) We're allowed to replace Rdb/SQL with some other server.
-
- 3) Distribution of developped code should cost us little to nothing.
- It would be nearly impossible to license by user.
-
- It seems that Paradox 4.0 will do what we need on the DOS side. I'm
- afraid it will be slow since it can't be compiled a la Clipper. But, it
- doesn't seem that Clipper can do the SQL-server stuff. So, some
- recommendations for both DOS and VMS software to help us accomplish this
- would be greatly appreciated. If someone can comment on performance
- with Paradox or just the package in general, that would be marvy too.
-
- Thanks...
