  16. Jon L. White (from MIT) had a paper in (I believe) the first Lisp and
  17. Functional Programming Language Conference in either 1979 or 1980.  The
  18. issue has also been adressed in the Proceedings of the Hawaii Inter. Conf.
  19. on System Sciences, 1992.  There is also a workshop going on right now in
  20. Canada on Distributed Object Management Systems.  A compilation is
  21. supposed to be published by Morgan-Kaufman titled Distributed Object
  22. Management edited by Ozsu.
