  25.         A lot of shareware programs know about DESQview and can give time
  26.         to other tasks when they don't need it (when a program is waiting
  27.         for a keypress, or BBS software is waiting for a call, for
  28.         example).  This means that when running these "DESQview aware"
  29.         programs actually speed up other programs on your system because
  30.         they are only using as much processor time as they need.
  31.
  32.         Of course, OS/2 programs do this too - and programmers can make
  33.         DOS programs running under OS/2 give away time like this - but
  34.         many programs don't currently have this facility.
  35.
  36.         This is where OS/2 SPEED comes in.  It tells programs that they
  37.         are running under DESQview - and when they use the DESQview
  38.         function to give away time, it intercepts this and calls the
  39.         equivelant OS/2 function.  The net result is that all DESQview
  40.         aware programs become OS/2 aware!
  41.
  42. <Submitter's note>
  43.
  44. The file os2speed.zip allows any Desqview-aware program to give up timeslices
  45. in OS/2 2.0 so that the rest of the system will run faster.  The combination
  46. of the communication program Boyan 5.0 and DSZ/GSZ zmodem work with this
  47. without using the whole CPU.  I don't know of any other Desqview aware comm
  48. program (Telix isn't).
