- The American Association for Artificial Intelligence
- Cordially Invites and Solicits Proposals from Exhibitors
- to Participate in:
-
- AI-on-Line
-
- in conjunction with the Fifth Annual Conference on
- Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence
- July 11-16, 1993. The conference is collocated with
- AAAI-93 in Washington, D.C. Both conferences are
- sponsored by the American Association for Artificial
- Intelligence
-
- AI-on-Line is a series of panels focusing on critical
- issues involved in AI development and deployment. AI-
- on-Line has become an integral part of IAAI, the
- Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence
- conference. While IAAI showcases the most innovative
- deployed AI applications world-wide, AI-on-Line
- explores important issues involved in delivering
- effective and successful AI systems.
-
- Panels have typically, but not exclusively, been organized
- by trade show vendors. AAAI encourages vendors as well
- as other organizations or individuals to submit proposals
- for AI-on-Line panels. Panelists are usually experienced
- AI users and have a strong business view of leveraging AI
- technology to achieve business benefit. Sufficient time
- in each panel is allocated to allow audience questions
- and comments.
-
- Requirements & Participation
-
- Each panel should address a practical problem or theme
- of broad interest to developers of AI applications.
- Panelists should focus on specific issues, such as
- problems and solutions, technical trade-offs, managerial
- issues, organizational concerns, and challenges for the
- future. Case studies can be used to illustrate the issues,
- but should not be the principal focus of the panel
- presentations. (Case studies are the focus of IAAI.)
-
- Panel proposals should include a description of the
- sessions, the name and full address and phone of the
- principal contact of the organizer, the name of the
- proposed panel moderator, and a list of proposed
- panelists. The moderator should be impartial, and should
- not be affiliated with the sponsoring organization.
- Panelists should be selected to provide a balanced,
- unbiased panel where alternative views and approaches
- can be presented.
-
- Panel proposals will be judged based on the importance
- and relevance of the proposed topic, and on the range and
- experience of the proposed panelists.
-
-
- Content
-
- Each panel will have the following format:
-
- - Sponsoring organizer introduces the panel moderator.
- - Brief summary of panel issues and objectives by
- moderator.
- - Short presentations (10 minute maximum) by 4-5
- panelists.
- - Quick summary or list of challenges by moderator.
- - Audience question-answer session.
- - Final summary by moderator.
-
- Panelists should focus on the specific issues, using
- direct experience to support their positions.
-
-
- Topics
-
- The following topics are suggestions of panels that
- would be of particular interest to our audience:
-
- - Methodologies for AI Development (how do they
- compare and contrast with other methodologies?)
- - Management Involvement in AI Applications (how to
- overcome reluctant management)
- - Computing Return-on-Investment for AI Systems (how
- are AI systems costs justified?)
- - What Users are Buying in AI Today and Why (what's
- available and what's needed)
- - Embedded AI (AI components within products or large
- software systems)
- - Knowledge Acquisition (is it getting easier or harder?)
-
- - Evaluating and Validating AI Systems (how is it done
- and how effective is it?)
- - Maintenance of AI Systems (overcoming organizational
- and technical problems)
- - How Would You Do It Differently Today? (lessons
- learned)
-
-
- Submission Deadline
