  24.     We, the Institute for New Generation Computer Technology (ICOT), have
  25. made our original and advanced software available to the public free of
  26. charge in order to contribute toward the progress of computer science.
  27. Persons wanting to use this ``ICOT Free Software'' may freely do so and
  28. may also freely modify, copy and distribute such, provided that ICOT gives
  29. no warranty on this software.  We hope that this software will be of use
  30. in your research and development activities.

  32.     This newsletter is published in order to provide users with new
  33. information on ICOT Free Software.  New issues will be published
  34. successively to announce the latest changes in the software.
  35.  
  36.     A list of ICOT Free Software is provided in the ICOT Free Software
  37. Catalogue. If you do not have a copy of this list, please contact us at
  38. the address given at the end of this newsletter.
  39.  
  40.     If you know of persons who are interested in ICOT Free Software,
  41. please let us know their names and addresses so that we can send them
  42. newsletters.

  45. [Announcement of the first release of ICOT Free Software]
  46.  
  47.     Of the 71 ICOT Free Software programs, 43 programs will be released on
  48. 7th August.  These are obtainable through Anonymous FTP from our ftp-
  49. server machine (ftp.icot.or.jp) at ICOT.  Note that, only ftp access from
  50. oversea is available now.
  51.     ===========================================================
  52.     You are not allowed to access ftp-server from inside Japan
  53.     until the preparation of the domestic server is completed.  
  54.     The server will be prepared by the beginning of September.  
  55.     ===========================================================
  56. Persons in Japan wanting to get the software earlier than this date are
  57. requested to come to ICOT to copy it by themselves.

  59.     By the end of August, almost all of the 71 programs will be released.
