- That's all very well, but how many of us English- speakers would
- bother to learn the native language of a non-English speaking
- country we went to study in? Whenever I've been abroad I've ALWAYS
- found that I can get by with very minimal language skills, simply
- because the way of the world is that everyone pampers to English-
- speakers.
-
- I agree, and it's very sad to see. However, I don't think you CAN
- "get by" with minimal skills in "Ivory Tower-ese"--isn't that what
- this conversation is all about? :)
-
- Maybe Esperanto's not such a bad idea after all- it could rightfully
- take the place of English, which seems to be the "universal
- language" at the moment!!
-
- Why replace one "universal language" with another? Let's just
- recognize the one we use in a given context, without denegrating the
- others, and go with that.
