  14. Here goes a real flame-elicitor:

  16.         Speaking of tests with cultural bias--seems to me that if
  17. folks applying for programs in this country, where the Ivory Tower
  18. set is dominated by white middle class (or higher) men who speak
  19. American English and eat at McDonald's occassionally, then those
  20. folks OUGHT to learn the "language" that they are going to HAVE to
  21. know to make it through the current academic system.  It's just
  22. another language, like Esperanto, or Espanol, or assembly language,
  23. fer cryin' out loud.  To live in South Central LA, you need to know
  24. a particular language.  To navigate the New York mass transit
  25. system, you need to know another.  And to get through academia, you
  26. need to know a third.
  27.         'Course, once you're there, you have the power to make the
  28. changes from within to help those that are still on the outside get
  29. inside.
  30.         Ok, folks--I'm sittin' here with the first aid kit, waiting
  31. for the rips and tears.
