-
- File this under "misery loves company", but I'm wondering whether
- there are any other sites which have encountered an infinite loop in
- LB660?
-
- For the benefit of those who might encounter this phenomenon down the
- road, here are our experiences and observations:
-
- It was very difficult to identify the offending record(s) because we
- don't receive a dump with this particular type of abend.
- Consequently we tried a generic circ remedy first, regenerating the
- action index. Unfortunately, this didn't help. Next we ran LB684 to
- audit the item file. Result: clean bill of health. Next: extensive
- testing vs segments of the transaction stream.
-
- I eventually traced the problem to two rush recalls. Once I
- eliminated these transactions from the request queue things ran
- smoothly. Our circ staff still cannot find anything unusual with the
- associated item or patron records. I've faxed the records in
- question to NSI for further analysis (PPQ-8301), since I fear the
- problem may resurface.
-
- Research of the NOTIS-L archive and TSG indicated some infinite
- looping has been reported, but near as I can tell it's always been in
- earlier steps of the process (LB610 module). Would welcome the
- opportunity to compare notes with any sites which have seen *LB660*
- fall asleep at the wheel. Thanks for any information you can
- provide...
