  11. File this under "misery loves company", but I'm wondering whether
  12. there are any other sites which have encountered an infinite loop in
  13. LB660?

  15. For the benefit of those who might encounter this phenomenon down the
  16. road, here are our experiences and observations:
  17.  
  18. It was very difficult to identify the offending record(s) because we
  19. don't receive a dump with this particular type of abend.
  20. Consequently we tried a generic circ remedy first, regenerating the
  21. action index.  Unfortunately, this didn't help.  Next we ran LB684 to
  22. audit the item file.  Result: clean bill of health.  Next: extensive
  23. testing vs segments of the transaction stream.

  25. I eventually traced the problem to two rush recalls.  Once I
  26. eliminated these transactions from the request queue things ran
  27. smoothly. Our circ staff still cannot find anything unusual with the
  28. associated item or patron records.  I've faxed the records in
  29. question to NSI for further analysis (PPQ-8301), since I fear the
  30. problem may resurface.

  32. Research of the NOTIS-L archive and TSG indicated some infinite
  33. looping has been reported, but near as I can tell it's always been in
  34. earlier steps of the process (LB610 module).  Would welcome the
  35. opportunity to compare notes with any sites which have seen *LB660*
  36. fall asleep at the wheel.  Thanks for any information you can
  37. provide...
