  13. One of the advantages of the auto-replace mode is
  14. the possibility ro enter an abbreviation in one
  15. language, and get it extracted in another. For instance,
  16. I type the Hebrew letters PT in a Hebrew text, and...
  17. I get _Poetics Today_ in English, with underline.
  18. Such abbreviations, however, cannot be entered via
  19. the dedicated screen, but must be entered manually
  20. into the SPL file, with the proper modes:

  24. ('mdhn' exists since many years in Shapirit. It will no
  25. longer exist in NB4. Instead, 'la4' will be the code for
  26. going to Hebrew).

  28. This is a great relief, because esp. when you are a fast typist,
  29. going back and forth between languages (here's a word I type
  30. 'lgs' for, Paul!) is tedious, even with Shapirit's F6 toggle
  31. key (NB4 has got so far language-dedicated keys, no toggles).

  33. It is also good to use the SPL file for typical typos. I
  34. type 'ceratin' instead of 'certain' and ususally use British
  35. rather than Amrican spelling. My SPL file takes care of these.

  37. Surely it is more convenient to type 't' rather than 'the',
  38. 'tg' rather than 'though', and 'bibs' rather than 'bibliographies',
  39. don't you think?
