- Sorry for having been so cryptic about spelling checking.
- My recommendation was to DISABLE your personal SPL file
- before activating the speller. This can be done by customizing
- some key(s). I normally load a file called word.spl
- before spelling; it is there that I keep all the extra
- words and other items not included in the dictionary.
- I also have other SPL files, which can naturally be loaded
- with a '+' (plus) sign (load x.spl+y.spl+z.spl, for instance).
- This is practical for specific texts. It is a waste of
- memory to load all of these ALL the time. Now, a personal
- distionary need not be loaded at all when spellchecking,
- unless you use abbreviations, but do not activate the auto-replace
- sunction, then expect the speller to expand all of these
- abbreviations. I suppose most users do NOT work this way.
-
- When spellchecking is over, I reload my personal SPL
- file (with a key, of course).
-
- The result is that the i --> I problem does not occur.
-
- In addition, I have recommended to tell NB to only recommend
- corrections based on SPL files rather than implement them.
- This way, no harm is ever done.
-
- I hope this is clearer now. I had to scribble yesterday
- those lines in great haste (too much to do!).
