- there are many of us waiting for NB4, but from all the discussions it
- is hard to tell which new features necessitate the upgrade. Personally,
- I need:
- 1. SLS italics for transliterated asian languages,
- 2. possibility to arrange small footnotes horizontally,
- 3. shoulder notes
- 4. more font sizes,
- 5. diacritics of transliterated characters better placed (a-macron e.g.).
- 6. simple ways to edit characters on screen and for the (HP) printer,
- This is about it. Apart for 1 and 4 NB4 does not give me relief. Again (if
- beta 3.11 is to be trusted) many characters absolutely essential for
- Vedic and Avestan, are absent (I had complained to DF about this three years
- back).
- So I spent a week trying to understand the sls-hp.prn file. The result is
- more than I expected: Now I print SLS italics (underline on screen), have
- all characters needed and the diacritics are where they should be. Good bye
- NB4. Anyone in need of my prn-file may contact me and I'll send it -
- together with explanations about how to compose characters for the HP P2.
- BTW, Beta 3.11 has a curious feature: the new "composed" characters
- are not allowed in XLP programs. Is this just a beta deficiency or part
- of NB4?If the latter should be true I will never use NB4.
- There are so many NB cracks on this list. Shouldn't we (the innocent users)
- and the XPL wizzards form an alliance, tell us WHAT we need and try to
- bypass DF/NBI? This way we may be in a position to predict when we will
- get what we require.
