  11. We use VMCENTER + VMOPERATOR

  13. three (online) staging areas but no 'online' archiving, 7 day retention

  15. recalls processed every 30 minutes 0830 - 2230

  17. archives ( from stage and delay ) processed 3 times a day
  18. ( max retention period = 720 days - users must update expiry date at
  19.   least once every two years to retain files - prevents indefinite
  20.   retention-by-default of unneeded files )

  22. we use the vmsecure rules facility - vmarchive public modules and help
  23. files are on a disk not accessable to ACIGROUP STUDENTS
  24.   ie  rule =   REJECT STUDENT LINK 3FF ( GROUP

  26. ( groups FACULTY, STAFF, SYSPROG etc may access disk )

  28. I have a 50 DSS limit per volume - periodically I scan tapes on MVS
  29. to determine 'feet actually used' and use that information to set up
  30. merge/purge runs such that M/P output will fit on one volume.
  31. ( to CYA, I have fortran program that massages database before and after
  32.   M/P - expired and or purged files have bits cleared, special dates
  33.   inserted to indicate original status, and ownership xferred to
  34.   id = PURGEyy ( done once a year ) - status is restored after M/P -
  35.   this way I have one extra year after announced ' anything marked
  36.   expired/purged on ---- will be UNRECOVERABLY deleted"  If user
  37.   has enough clout, I can reload from user PURGEyy to orig id while
  38.   explaining that tape had not yet been overwritten and I was able to
  39.   recover data this time ( but, BOY were you lucky !! ) )
