- Lines: 24
-
- Our system running JNET is also a system which acts as an email gateway for
- many systems. We create mailids for all these users on this one system
- so that there is a centralize mail address to send to. The gateway then
- sends mail to to actual system. This means that this computer may
- have a valid email address of X@DUKEMC.MC.DUKE.EDU (or X@MC.DUKE.EDU) but
- there is no actual account X on DUKEMC. When files are sent to X@DUKEMC
- they go into the dead file area. I have a program which then pulls
- them out and puts them into an email to the actual recipient.
- The problem is, when the file is sent, the sender gets:
-
- (DUKEMC) - No such user DRYFO001. Sending to Dead File Area.
-
- which is misleading and generates questions. The file actually does get
- to user dryfo001@dukemc (that user just happens to be on another system).
- Creating accounts for each of these users is out of the question as we
- are talking about thousands. Is there a way to supress these misleading
- messages? Is there some type of alias file that can be created? That is
- how I do the mail bit (using PMDF aliases).
-
- On the side, does anyone have a program for extracting received files and
- doing something with them like putting them into an email message? mine
- is just a hack and runs into enough problems.
-
- Thanks, Jim
