- CMS should not be run with MACHINE ESA. It is technically unsupported.
- MACHINE ESA is supported for guests only. CMS can run with MACHINE 370,
- MACHINE XA, and MACHINE XC. As far as CMS goes MACHINE ESA and MACHINE
- XA are essentially the same but the response from CP QUERY SET is
- different and some (many?) CMS programs that can handle an XA response
- can't handle an ESA response.
-
- Use MACHINE XC to allow CMS to use ESA features, like data spaces and
- access register mode. MACHINE ESA has all of the ESA features but only
- for DAT ON machines (dynamic address translation). CMS normally runs
- only with DAT OFF and MACHINE XC was created to allow DAT OFF machines to
- use ESA capabilities.
