- Please allow me to introduce myself : Richard T.U. Wah, Deputy
- Director/Head of Distance Education at the University of the South
- Pacific, Suva, Fiji Islands, in the South Pacific. I am trying to
- gather information for a study as set out below. If there is any
- one out there who has an interest in this area and would like to
- discuss this with me, I have access to Internet through the bridge
- at Waikato University in New Zealand. My Email address is
- "WAH_RT@USP.AC.FJ". Please contact me via this address.
-
- TOPIC : DISTANCE EDUCATION AT USP : Is it efficient and cost
- effective?
-
-
- This study will investigate the planning strategies that are used
- in DE institutions and consider the implications of these
- strategies to management systems that are in place or need to be
- put in place. The University of the South Pacific will be the
- primary university under study. Although others will be selected
- based on issues that are critical to this analysis. The following
- analyses will be conducted :
-
- (a) reference/focus groups' responses to the University's
- contribution to their own country and their expectations
- of what the University's DE impact on their countries
- should be? what do they consider DE to be?
-
- (b) the University's DE aims and policies; and its action
- plans and activities. Are these different? , what are the
- marketing strategies used?
-
- (c) integrating (a) and (b) above and producing alternative
- structures for DE planning strategies,
-
- (d) having developed structures as presented in (c)
- corresponding structures for appropriate management
- systems/structures for implementing these plans need to
- be designed,
-
- (e) the evaluative procedures used in the DE institutions
- selected for this study in relation to their course
- offerings, operations and cost effectiveness.
-
-
- The costs ( financial, chronological, sociological and political)
- will be considered when developing the structures described in (c)
- and (d).
-
- Any statistical information, papers or reports, titles of articles
- books etc would be appreciated.
-
- Thanks for reading this,
-
- Richard.
