- For years, our staff members arrived just in time to open the library. We
- found that it was very chaotic - trying to open the library, turn on machinery,
- and help patrons. So, several years ago, we changed our system so that one
- staff member arrives a half hour before opening. This staff member takes care
- of all the opening procedures, does the daily circulation count (we're still in
- the era of check-out cards), and if time permits, other recalls, notifies, etc.
- This staff person also has time to assess the immediate work needs for
- assigning student workers to jobs. By opening time, we're ready to face the
- day!
