- * So I would really appreciate your response to:
- *
- * 1. How much revenue do you collect in overdue fines annually?
- We collect replacement money for lost items, overdue fines and fees(fees
- include a $3.00 charge for a replacement library card) In 1989 we
- Lost items Fines/Fees
- 1989 $25,251.53 $48,887.31
- 1990 30,089.70 60,436.30
- 1991 47,246.93 69,522.83
-
-
- * 2. What is the size of your collection and number of circulations
- * per year?
- Size of the collection = 2.5 million; Circulation = 330,000 annual
-
-
- * 3. How and where do you collect the money?
- We collect the money at the Circulation department, but from a separate
- service counter (it's a little roll-up window around the corner from the Circ
- desk). Circ handles all cash transactions - fines, fees, debit cards,
- collection of monies for database searches and ILL fees -- so we are also the
- ones to reconcile the cash on a daily basis, with our Fiscal office doing the
- doublecheck count.
-
- * 4. Does it go into a library account or to a general fund?
- The monies for lost items goes back into the library book fund, while the fines
- to sort/mail notices, paying for postage and envelopes for overdue notices,
- invoices and statements, and paying for the paper that the notices are printed
