- We face a similar situation in Alaska. We too are "blessed" with
- a state-wide system, though the libraries still report to their
- respective campus administrations. Each of the university libraries
- has in place CD-ROM based packages networked in the libraries
- and two of the networks a positioned to be searched by users
- outside the library and beyond the immediate campus locations.
- As with our friends in Australia, our users may well be
- hundreds of miles away from the libraries themselves
-
- As of yet, we have no answers on the license fee issues nor on
- exactly how "user" can be defined to meet the profit needs of the
- vendors and the service needs of our libraries. I echo the question
- from Australia, who has made a creative break through in this
- arena?
